Linguists have to be their own advocates. If quality work such as fixed formatting, or catching a mathematical error in the source text that would make a client look bad was provided; then asking for an internal notation in reference to the project or client is perfectly reasonable. A freelance expert will never be able to quantify how actions like that equal work, but a trail of quality notes can only lead to more work.

Play the long-term quality game!

Experts should always consider quality to be on a spectrum, like a grading scale, or car service rating. Quality is often not Pass / Fail but a series of interactions and choices that equal an individual that people want to work with. If an individual is choosing the right interactions then that expert will always equal quality.
